2019-20 Course Guide

Jazz band

Joined by audition. Students audition spring of the previous school year and fall of current school year (9th Graders). Must be enrolled in large ensemble (percussion, concert, wind) class to enter. Meets MWF 6:15 am -7:15 am (2017/18 school year). *Concert dress for concerts.  

Percussion Methods 

If your student's main instrument is percussion, they must be in this class. If they double on percussion for marching band, they do not. This is a year-long class. They perform at all band events.
There are sometimes 1-2 extra outside rehearsals with winds for concerts.
Marching Band & Pep Band required. Standard block schedule, 4th period. *Concert dress for concerts.


Concert Band

If your student is a freshman, he/she must be in this class. This is a year long class.
It performs at all band events. Focus is on building skills. Students may opt-in to Cedarcrest Marching Band or participating in the pep band but it's not required.

Standard block schedule, 1st period. *Concert dress for concerts.

Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble


Classes consists of Sophomore, Junior and Senior students. Auditions for Wind Ensem  ble take place at the end of the school year. This is a year long class. It performs at all band events. Marching Band & Pep band required.
Standard block schedule, 5th/6th period. *Concert dress for concerts.



Marching Band

  All percussion, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band students participate. Required Band Camp (click for more information) & evening rehearsals.
Rehearsals: Monday/Wednesday, 5 pm - 8:30 pm (tentative), to the first week of November.
Uniform provided, shoes paid for by the program for freshman only.
To complete the uniform students need a black tight top (like under armor), black shorts or tights - something tight or light weight that can be worn under bibbers, tall black socks - they need to not have any ankle showing.


Pep Band

Basketball, 11 games, 6 nights @ CHS (estimated) Tuesday / Friday
Begins and ends in January


*Concert Dress

Concert dress consists of black jacket, black slacks, white button down shirt (if wearing with jacket) black tie (bow tie only), black skirt (knee length when sitting required), black shirt or blouse (shoulders and neckline should be covered), low-heel shoes (less than 2 inches).
